Parks can be catalysts for neighborhood change, but those changes are not always positive. Investment in new and existing parks raises the value of surrounding real estate, which may result in increased commercial and residential rents that displace people. How can cities address the need for accessible green space while keeping homes affordable? Panelists from Detroit and San Antonio will discuss how their cities work with developers to ensure that adequate affordable housing is provided as part of construction projects that capitalize on green space through the use of community benefit agreements and the creation of public benefit corporations.
