Jane Jacobs Walk honors the legacy and ideas of urban activist and writer Jane Jacobs who championed the interests of local residents and pedestrians over a car-centered approach to city planning. The walks occur all over the country.

Jane Jacobs Walks are free self-organized walks and discussions led by committed citizens sharing their knowledge about and love for places.

  Live Love Detroit Jane's Walks

A series of storytelling walks across the City of Detroit to support Detroiters telling the stories of their neighborhoods on their own terms during the first weekend in May.

Detroit Jane's Walks are walks organized to honor the legacy of Jane Jacobs and to support Detroit communities to host storytelling walks. Live Love Detroit is an informal organization of a few neighbors working to grow the storytelling walks across Detroit. Walks are meant to showcase a side to Detroit that is often missing from the dominant narrative surrounding Detroit. This year 11 walks are being organized. Walks cover all areas of the city.

Our project addresses the challenge of storytelling in Detroit neighborhoods. There are many stories about Detroit that are told in mainstream media. Many of these stories leave out the experiences of Detroiters living in areas outside of a few neighborhoods. We hope to support neighborhoods to reclaim their narratives and tell stories during the Jane's Walks.
