I have been told that this WRAP line is overloaded with calls and is not responding to our needs....here is an email from a resident:
I called about the WRAP water assistance program and was told that they are not currently taking any applications due to interest volume.

I gathered from the waynemetro rep that they are the sole intake agency, the enrollment process involves an in-person intake appointment, appointments are booked through June and no additional appointments are being taken at this time, 50-100 people are calling about this program per day, and the program is intended to eventually serve most of southeast michigan.

I was highly frustrated that a program addressing water accessibility, an issue even the United Nations has reprimanded the area for, does not have the infrastructure to provide services to even a tiny fraction of those it is supposed to serve.

I mean, Detroit has almost 700,000 residents, almost 40% living in poverty. The eligibility requirement for the program is income at or below 150% of poverty. This means that even if the program only served Detroit and not most of southeast michigan, and even if the eligibility was the actual poverty line and not 1.5 times the poverty level, there would still be over 275,000 people in immediate need of services!

How do they dare suggest that they can finally FINALLY address some of the incredible hardship families are facing and fighting for basic access to WATER and then not provide the access to the service?!!!!
I hope the elected officials on my list read this message.
