  • Community Safety Concerns

Q. Body Cameras

A. The police support them in general but hope that they do not become a problem due to privacy issues. Also, what if in a home and are asked to shut them off and then something happens?

  • Community Meeting Update

    • Leslie Malcolmson told a story about her work to improve traffic in Midtown due to the construction on Woodward - streets like John R, Cass, and Second were inundated with traffic, especially at rush hour. Wayne State Public Safety Department Chief Holt said that he would look into it.

At the March Midtown Alliance Meeting, Ashok Patel, Head Transportation Engineer, Detroit Department of Public Works, Traffic Engineer Division was in attendance. He explained that several things had happened:

      • He did an examination of the lights at Canfield and Alexandrine and changed their timing and patterns. This will help the traffic flow in the area.

      • He also installed two “No Parking to Corner” signs on Cass, north and south of Willis.

The police in attendance at the March Midtown Meeting (Detroit and Wayne State) both said that they were having a crusade against speeders on Second and Third. The traffic lights at Second and Selden and Second and Peterboro were reactivated. With the light at Second and Martin Luther King Blvd, these lights should also help reduce speeding on Second.
