Speaking on “The North End as I knew it”
Russell Street Missionary Baptist Church, the oldest continuously operating African American church in Detroit’s Historic North End presents its 28TH Annual Black History Month Program.
“The North End as I knew it” will be the subject of the featured speaker, former resident and current North End Business owner, Mr. Roger Robinson, Board Chairman for the Detroit Micro-Enterprise Fund and President of the North End Central Woodward Governance Board. Mr. Robinson will speak about The North End he knew from his years as a youth active in Detroit’s Jewish community, his involvement at the Jewish Community Center (now known as the Considine Little Rock Family Life Center) and his familiarity with The North End’s business and varied music and arts scene. The North End currently poised for a rebirth was a vibrant business district and home to many of Detroit’s colorful historical characters including many of Motown’s early stars and many world renowned Blues and Jazz greats.
Russell Street’s 28th Annual Black History Program will be held on February 23, 2013, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the church which is located at 8700 Chrysler Service Drive, Detroit MI 48211. There is no charge.
Historic Russell Street Missionary Baptist Church a church of firsts; is one of the oldest Baptist Churches to install a woman as Senior Pastor, The Reverend Dr. Dee Dee M. Coleman. The church will be celebrating its 97th Anniversary on Sunday, February 24, 2013 starting at 10:45 a.m.
