What we did in 2012!
Year review in numbers
169 - Bikes earned by youth aged 8-16 in Youth Earn-a-Bike271 - Bikes given to youth under the age of 7
62 - Bikes that went out to partnering programs that work with youth
502 - Bikes that Back Alley Bikes got to youth aged 0-16 this year.
812 - Kids coming to our shop that wanted to be in Earn-a-Bike
571 - Kids we were able to get into Earn-a-Bike
1445 - Hours youth put in working and learning in the workshop
344 - Adults that came to the Adult Mechanic Class
3322 - Volunteer hours put in
These numbers only tell part of a story of course. The number of bikes going out doesn't talk about what our youth took intellectually and emotionally from their time in the shop. Also not reflected in these numbers are the Mechanic-In-Training students we hired this past summer, nor all the youth we met with while visiting schools. In February we will be taking the Mechanic-In-Training students to the Youth Bike Summit in New York City. We are really excited for what might come out of that experience. Here's to 2013!
