The Detroit Board of Zoning Appeals hearing date to stop the Core City concrete crusher is scheduled for Monday, February 20th, at 9 am.
In case you missed it, Murray Wikol appealed the City of Detroit's decision to deny the permit in January. The Concerned Residents of Core City need as many people as possible to attend the Board of Zoning Appeals hearing virtually or in person in February. All Detroiters are welcome.
RSVP now by clicking here and get info about how to attend the hearing virtually or in person.
There’ll be a free bus leaving from Core City.
The people involved in this proposed project are bad apples. The lot owner, Murray Wikol, has received multiple violations since March 2021 from the City of Detroit because of the unsafe state of the site — all of which have gone unaddressed. The proposed operator, Vaughan Smith, was evicted from running a similar operation in Highland Park recently and has four violations from the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) for unsafe practices at other operations he's managed.
We thank the City of Detroit staff at the Buildings, Safety Engineering, and Environmental Department for seeing how inappropriate this project is in our area and denying Murray Wikol’s permit in December.
The fight is now going to Detroit's Board of Zoning Appeals on February 20th because, while we welcome positive development in Core City, we won’t support anything that will hurt our families and us for decades.
Please join the Concerned Residents of Core City in saying no to the Concrete Crusher in their neighborhood. |
