Michigan Interchange I-75 Closures
EMERGENCY DETOUR ALERT: Bridging North America (BNA) has implemented a new detour on Woodmere Street in response to the emergency closure of the Fort Street and Dearborn Street intersection. Northbound motorists heading toward Springwells Street northbound will be detoured to Fort Street eastbound/Melville Street eastbound, south on Green Street southbound, west on Jefferson Avenue westbound, north on Dearborn Street northbound, north on Woodmere Street, east on Vernor Highway eastbound, and then Springwells Street.
Fort Street - NEW
- The existing mobile closure on Fort Street between Springwells Street and Clark Street will remain in place
until June 30, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily as needed. - On January 10, 2023, at 7 p.m. Bridging North America will temporarily close the three right lanes on
northbound I-75 between Springwells Street and Campbell Street for ramp girder work until January 11,
2023, at 5 a.m.
Jefferson Avenue - NEW
- The existing traffic shift on eastbound Jefferson Avenue to westbound Jefferson Avenue will remain in place until June 19, 2023, for curb reconstruction work.
Vernor Highway - NEW
- The Vernor Highway on-ramp to southbound I-75 will close on January 13, 2023, at 9 p.m. – January 16, 2023, at 5 a.m.
Green Street - NEW
- The existing closure on Green Street between Fort Street and southbound I-75 Service Drive will remain in place until January 30, 2023, for service drive reconstruction.
I-75 Northbound
- The Livernois exit-ramp at Northbound I-75 will close over a long-term period.
I-75 Southbound
- The right shoulder and right lane will close on northbound I-75 from Springwells Street to Clark Street from September 26, 2022 – December 18, 2023.
- The right shoulder and right lane will close on southbound I-75 from Bagley Avenue to Springwells Street from October 3, 2022 – December 18, 2023.
I-75 - NEW
- Three left lanes on northbound I-75 will close between the Springwells Street off-ramp and Clark Street on January 13, 2023, from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.
- Northbound I-75 will close between the Springwells Street off-ramp and Clark Street on January 13, 2023, at 9 p.m. until January 16, 2023, at 5 a.m.
- Three left lanes on southbound I-75 will close between the Clark Street off-ramp and the Springwells Street/southbound I-75 on-ramp on January 13, 2023, at 9 p.m. until January 16, 2023, at 5 a.m.
- Southbound I-75 will close between the Clark Street off-ramp and Springwells Street/southbound I-75 on-ramp on January 13, 2023, at 9 p.m. – January 16, 2023, at 5 a.m.
- The left lane of northbound I-75 Service Drive will close between Wilde Street and Rademacher Street from January 9 – May 31, 2023.
- All lanes of northbound I-75 Service Drive will close between Wilde Street and Rademacher Street from January 9 – May 31, 2023, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily as needed.
Springwells Street On-Ramp - NEW
- All lanes of the Springwells Street on-ramp to northbound I-75 will close on January 13, 2023, at 9 p.m. until January 16, 2023, at 5 a.m.
I-75 Service Drive - NEW
- Existing mobile closures on the northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives between Clark Street and Scotten Streets, and Springwells and Central Streets will remain in place until March 31, 2023, between 6 a.m. - 6 p.m. as needed. Only one lane will close. Closures will be less than 30 minutes in duration during these time frames for mobilization and demobilization of equipment activities.
- The existing mobile closures along northbound and southbound I-75 between Schaefer Avenue and Michigan Avenue will remain in place until April 28, 2023, from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. daily as needed.
- Northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drive will close over a long-term period between Green Street and Waterman Street. Combined with pre-existing Service Drive closures in the area will make the entire northbound and southbound Service Drive closed from Springwells Street to Clark Street
- Existing mobile closures on the northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives between Clark Street and Green Streets, and Springwells and Central Streets will remain in place until October 31, 2022, between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. as needed. Only one lane will close. Closures will be less than 30 minutes for mobilization and demobilization of equipment activities.
- Mobile closures on northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives between Schaefer Avenue and Michigan Avenue will remain in place until October 28, 2022, between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily as needed.
- The existing northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drive closures between Waterman Street and Dragoon Street will remain in place until December 16, 2022. These long-term closures have been extended to complete the realignment and reconstruction of the northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives.
- Northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drive will close over a long-term period between Green Street and Waterman Street. Combined with pre-existing Service Drive closures in the area will make the entire northbound and southbound Service Drive closed from Springwells Street to Clark Street.
The following road closures are in place;
- Waterman Street between northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives
- Dragoon Street between Fort Street and the southbound I-75 Service Drive
- Green Street between Fort Street and the southbound I-75 Service Drive.
- The southbound I-75 Service Drive will remain closed between Clark Street and Dragoon Street until December 16, 2022.
- The northbound I-75 Service Drive will remain closed between Clark Street and Dragoon Street until December 16, 2022.
- The southbound I-75 Service Drive will remain closed between Junction Street and Clark Street until December 16, 2022, at 06:00 p.m.
- The northbound I-75 Service Drive will remain closed between Junction Street and Clark Street until December 16, 2022 at 06:00 p.m.
- The southbound I-75 Service Drive will remain closed between Dragoon Street and Junction Street until December 16,2022 at 06:00 p.m.
- The northbound I-75 Service Drive will remain closed between Dragoon Street and Junction Street until December 16, 2022 at 06:00 p.m.
Long Term I-75 Closures
As construction of the Michigan Interchange and the US Port of Entry (POE) continues, Bridging North America will extend the temporary closures along Livernois Avenue. Additionally, Cavalry Street and Military Street will remain closed over a long-term period. As a reminder, in July 2020, several streets closed over a long-term period including sections of Dragoon Street, Driggs Street, Harvey Street, Reeder Street and Hussar Street.
Junction Street
- Junction Street bridge between the northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives will close over a long-term period.
Springwells Court
- Springwells Court northbound and southbound is closed west of the Lafarge entrance to east of the Springwells Court detour from May 15, 2021 until November 23, 2024.
Cavalry Street
- Cavalry Street will remain closed between the northbound I-75 Service Drive and Fort Street.
Military Street
- Military Street will remain closed between the northbound I-75 Service Drive and Fort Street.
Post Street
- Post Street remains closed over a long-term period between CSX Railroad and the Delray Mechanical entrance.
Campbell Street
- The existing long-term closure on Campbell Street between West Jefferson Avenue and Fort Street will remain in place until May 31, 2023.
Construction Activities
US Port of Entry (POE)
- Removal of the surcharge material continues at the west bridge.
- Installation of underground wet and dry utilities continues.
- Installation of the earth retention system for the jacking pit
- The team placed generator walls, pulled branch wire, installed masonry unit (CMU) blocks, and installed in wall conduit and piping, as well as installed pipe insulation, overhead hangers, conduits, pipes, ducts, cable trays and ducts and worked on drywalling in the Commercial building.
- Activities on the Main building included in wall rough ins for conduit, pulling branch wire, and the installation of overhead hangers, ducts, conduits, pipes, and masonry unit (CMU) blocks. Crews also set the steel elevator and installed interior framing and girt, soffit, roughed in sprinklers, and the curtain wall glass.
- Column isolation work and the installation of masonry unit (CMU) blocks continue for the Outbound building. Work also continues on the overhead hangers, pipes and conduits.
- Crews continue underground floor boxes and slab on grade preparations for the Pedestrian Processing building.
- Work continues on the piers on the Commercial Canopy, the Non-Commercial Canopy, and the After-Hours Canopy
- Installation continues of overhead hangers and pipes and exterior framing on the Skybridge.
US Bridge site
- The crane was moved to the bridge deck as work continues.
- Work in the anchor piers and in the approach pile and encasements progressed.
- Approach and back span activities are ongoing.
Michigan Interchange
- Work continues on the Calvary and Military siphons.
- The team excavated a pump station
- Pedestrian bridge work continues
- The road teams demolished and removed roads at Dearborn and Jefferson and at Green and Livernois
- Foundational work as footings were laid for two bridge ramps.

2023 Community Organization Investment Funding Increased – Applications Open
Applications are open for the 2023 Community Organization Investment, a five-year initiative as part of the Community Benefits Plan.
In its first three years, $300,000 (CDN) has been invested in 26 local initiatives. Year after year, the project has received applications that have exceeded the annual funding envelope of $100,000 (CDN). Following consultation with community partners, the project team has increased the annual investment to $200,000 (CDN) for the remaining two years of the initiative, with each community to receive $100,000 (CDN).
The funding is available to registered non-profit or charitable organizations located in or serving Sandwich/west Windsor and Delray/Southwest.
Detroit communities in Canada and the US. Eligible organizations can submit funding applications ranging from $1,000 to $25,000 (CDN) for events, programming and infrastructure improvements that will benefit the neighbourhoods closest to the project.
Applications will be accepted until 4:00 p.m. on January 25, 2023.
