March 8, 2016 -- Weather permitting, the replacement of the Trumbull Avenue overpass above I-94 in Detroit will begin on Friday, March 18, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). The new Trumbull Avenue overpass is expected to be open in October.
Beginning 10 p.m. Friday, March 18, both directions of I-94 will be closed between I-96 and M-10 (Lodge Freeway) to allow contractors to demolish the Trumbull Avenue overpass. Detours will be posted for both directions of I-94 using I-96, I-75 and M-10. I-94 will open to traffic by 5 a.m. Monday, March 21.
In addition to the closing of the Trumbull Avenue overpass, the eastbound I-94 exit ramp to Trumbull Avenue, as well as the Trumbull Avenue entrance ramp to westbound I-94, will be closed during construction. Detours will be posted for Trumbull Avenue and the I-94 ramps.
Impacts on I-94 will be restricted to overnight hours on weekdays, and at all times on weekends. During peak travel times, both directions of I-94 will have all lanes open via traffic shifts. At times, crews will close the ramps from northbound and southbound M-10 to westbound I-94 for safety purposes.
