Ford’s Billion-Dollar Vision for Michigan Central

Last Friday, Ford Motor Co. Chairman Bill Ford and Mayor Mike Duggan announced more good news for the Michigan Central transformation. The site will become a transportation innovation zone that can change how we view mobility and position Detroit as a great place to work.

Ford announced that Google is joining the automaker’s effort to transform the historic train station into a research hub focused on electric and self-driving vehicles. Michigan Central Station, set to open next year, will be a cool place to work and attract tech talent.

Detroit and the state of Michigan have agreed to provide infrastructure and other support for the Michigan Central Innovation District that will include the depot and other buildings in the historic Corktown neighborhood.

“The arrival of Google as a founding partner is exactly the kind of investment and progress I knew was possible to revitalize our hometown,” Ford said in a release. “And I could not be more pleased that the City of Detroit and the State of Michigan are also joining us in this ambitious effort.”

Congratulations to DDP Executive Committee Member Mary Culler and Board Member Bill Ford.
