Our 2nd Annual Youth Arts Competition Returns!

If you know a budding young artist, here’s your chance to encourage their talent and development by submitting their original compositions and artwork to The Awakening Continues…


The competition is open to students throughout Metro Detroit and submissions will be accepted in the following disciplines:

  • Visual Arts

  • Literary Arts

  • Music/original composition

  • Dance/original choreography.

There are 2 divisions: Junior: 6-8th grade and Senior 9-12th grade. Students from each division will receive cash awards for the top 3 submissions.

  • 1st Place: $500.00

  • 2nd Place: $250.00

  • 3rd Place: $100.00

ALL Winners and Honorable Mention awardees will be featured in a special student exhibition inside the Carr Center Gallery, 15 E. Kirby Street in the late Spring . Submissions begin March 28th.

Jason Philips Exhibition Is Closing Next Week!


Multifaceted, A Retrospective of Work by Jason Philips, currently on exhibition at The Carr Center Gallery, has been extended and will now run through January 22nd.

Jason Philips is a gifted Detroit painter, mixed media artist, muralist and tattoo artist. Phillips creates artwork that reflects the African American cultural experience. His artwork chronicles the intersection of beauty and struggle.

We are located at 15 E. Kirby Street, inside The Park Shelton, in the heart of Detroit’s midtown cultural district. Gallery Hours are Wednesday through Saturday from NOON - 5pm.

As part of our Covid-19 Safety Protocols registration for timed tickets is required to visit The Carr Center Gallery. Proof of vaccination, social distancing and wearing a mask while inside the gallery will also be required.
