December Newsletter

Love to Share DPFC News?
We're Looking for a Newsletter Editor!
After nearly a year of supporting the DPFC newsletter, Devin Culham is stepping away to pursue a new full-time position and start graduate school – and we need your help to fill her role!

"I had been a DPFC member for a year, but was looking for more ways to get involved," says Culham. "Being a part of the monthly newsletter was a great opportunity to learn more about the co-op and help share news and progress from this hardworking grassroots organization."

As newsletter editor, we're looking for someone who is:
  • Passionate about Black-led cooperative ideals
  • Enjoys writing and has a strong eye for detail
  • Has experience using MailChimp or similar e-mail marketing platforms
  • Can dedicate 3-5 hours per month

December Volunteer Recruitment Campaign
Committees are part of the lifeblood of Detroit People's Food Co-op. They help to plan, strategize, and develop DPFC initiatives and will continue to be crucial as we grow and expand.

In December, we're continuing our initiative to increase the number of members who are involved in the co-op. If you currently serve on a committee, please talk to other members about your experience and encourage them to also join.

If you are not involved, this is your time. We need you! Cooperatives reflect the voices of their members.

Let your voice be heard by becoming a volunteer!

Each One, Bring One: Membership Campaign

Invite someone to join DPFC to help us reach our goal of 2000 members/owners!

We're asking current DPFC members to reach out to their local networks to help us increase membership. In November, we gained 72 new members for a current total of 1,402 member/owners.

Research shows that grocery cooperatives that open with at least 2,000 members/owners have been found to be more successful long-term, more sustainable, and more likely to stay open. Food cooperatives thrive when there is deep community support and a robust shopper base!

To participate, start by talking about the co-op with your family members, friends, neighbors, co-workers, fellow gym-goers, and anyone you come into contact with over the next several weeks.

Want to host a co-op party at your home or place of business? We'll support you!

Someone from the board will visit to discuss the mission of the co-op and the benefits of joining. For more information, e-mail us to attend your co-op membership event.

Know someone that's already interested in becoming a member? Ask them to join via the website. Once they've confirmed their membership with you, contact us so we can add your name to the drawing.

Anyone who refers a new member will be entered into a drawing for a Nutribullet or air fryer. Members who refer two or more new members will be entered to win double the prizes!
