In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

Greetings on behalf of the Detroit Police Department 3rd Precinct Police/Community Relations Council, Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it's been a long time since we've had the opportunity to come together and extend our appreciation for the men and women who wear blue serving our community. We are elated and hope that you will join us in this exciting endeavor. Our Community Council will host a luncheon appreciation "True for the Blue" on Tuesday May 16, 2023, 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Detroit Police Department, 3rd Precinct located at 2875 West Grand Boulevard, Detroit Michigan 48202. Of course, we cannot do this without You, You and especially You! We are in need of donations to provide refreshments and surprise gifts for our Police Officers. If you would like further information or would like to make a donation, please call Cheryl Major at 313-848-8068 or Sherry Russell at 313-598-0176.
