Detroit Future City Introduces:
"The 2019 Detroit Reinvestment Index"

Detroit Future City is proud to introduce The 2019 Detroit Reinvestment Index, a survey that shows that national business leaders’ and Detroit and suburban residents’ perceptions of Detroit are positive and continue to improve.

The Kresge Foundation produced the previous three editions of The Detroit Reinvestment Index and is proud to partner with DFC to develop and disseminate the 2019 edition, building on the organization’s strong portfolio of research providing relevant and accessible data to Detroiters and the city’s stakeholders.

The 2019 Detroit Reinvestment Index is the third in a series of significant publications DFC has released in the past two years, following Growing Detroit’s African American Middle Class and 139 Square Miles. We want to make sure you are one of the first to have the opportunity to read The 2019 Detroit Reinvestment Index and use it to further catalyze our collective efforts to help grow an equitable and sustainable Detroit.

In addition to noting that national business leaders and residents across Metro Detroit have very favorable opinions about Detroit, it also reveals other key aspects that can contribute to the growth of our region. For example, 46 percent of business leaders surveyed see Detroit as an excellent business opportunity, and many of them would invest in the city. Additionally, residents see change in their neighborhood as a benefit to them.

The 2019 Detroit Reinvestment Index also presents information that policymakers should consider in our efforts to drive equitable investment in the City. While interest in investing is high, increasing investment has the potential to place the city’s most vulnerable citizens at risk of displacement. This includes renters, who make up over half of Detroit’s population.

It is our hope that you and other decision-makers will use The 2019 Detroit Reinvestment Index as a guide to set deliberate strategies in order to rebuild Detroit, a city like no other.
