FORCE Live Free Detroit - Community Report Out, Dinner and Dialogue

Please join us for the first community report out of the Live Free Detroit Safety Survey. We have analyzed the collective voices of over 600 Detroiter’s around the impact of violence in the city, identified dominant media narratives, and researched national models with innovative approaches to community safety and best practices that can be adopted to decrease the number of people of color lost to gun homicides and incarceration.

There are an average of 11,600 gun murders a year in the U.S.—the equivalent of a Vietnam War every five years. Homicide is the leading cause of death for Black males (and the second leading cause for Latino males) between the ages of 15 and 34.

The U.S. has the highest incarceration rate in the world and holds more African Americans under correctional supervision than were enslaved in 1850.

We can live in a world where people of color aren’t lost to gun violence and incarceration by ensuring that sheriffs, prosecutors, police chiefs, mayors, city council members and county commissioners are held accountable as allies, not obstacles, to reform.

ALL ROADS TO ENDING MASS CRIMINALIZATION RUN THROUGH CITIES AND COUNTIES.
