DNR offers food truck concession opportunity on Belle Isle

On-site meeting March 12 for prospective bidders; all bids due March 22 by 2 p.m.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has announced an opportunity to operate and manage a food truck concession at Belle Isle Park in Detroit. Those interested may view the bid packet, as well as a list of other business opportunities in Michigan state parks, at www.michigan.gov/stateparkconcessions.

The DNR Parks and Recreation Division is seeking a partnership with a mobile food truck entity to enhance the food opportunities for Belle Isle visitors. The selected concessioner will work with park staff to create quality, dependable food options that include a variety of food choices.

“The contractor will have the ability to create appropriate food-themed events,” said Karis Floyd, manager of Belle Isle Park and Milliken State Park and Harbor. “Based upon recent public comments received at the strategic planning meetings, visitors expressed interest in expanding food options available in the park.

“One of the things we have observed is that food trucks are popular with visitors because of the variety of food they offer and the community atmosphere they create,” Floyd said. “By expanding food options, we hope that Belle Isle can become a place where friends and family come to meet and enjoy good food, conversations and the outdoors.”

Bids are due by Thursday, March 22, at 2 p.m. Prospective bidders are encouraged to attend an on-site meeting at Belle Isle Park Monday, March 12, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. or from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Kids’ Row building (follow signs in the park to the building).
