Recycle Here no longer accepts televisions, but I checked today at the Household Hazardous Waste Receiving Facility at 2000 E. Ferry.
They DO accept televisions, microwaves, and lots of other hard-to-recycle and hazardous items from Detroit residents.
You can find their information here: http://www.detroitmi.gov/How-Do-I/Request-a-Service/Household-Hazardous-Waste-Information
Although they indicate that drop-off is 'by appointment only', I have had great difficulty in reaching anyone by phone. Just stopping by during their hours and ringing the buzzer usually is successful.
Poisons, solvents, heavy metals, and other toxic products should never be poured down a drain or thrown into the trash. Instead, use up toxic products completely according to the label.
