Detroit’s neighborhoods can expect further entrepreneurial growth as Detroit SOUP becomes a program of Build Institute, an idea activator and small business accelerator focused on grassroots community entrepreneurship. As a program of Build, SOUP participants and winners will have access to a larger network of support and resources to grow their ideas and launch businesses.

“We’ve seen what Detroit SOUP can do for a community, not just in dollars raised, but in providing a community space for idea activation where neighbors support and invest in each other’s projects and feel empowered to create change in their communities,” said April Boyle, director of Build Institute. “Over the past seven years, SOUP has done so much for the community, and now we have the opportunity to offer more support to these community initiatives through the programs offered at Build Institute.” Read more about the transition in Daily Detroit.

Detroit SOUP founder, Amy Kaherl, will be stepping away from running Detroit SOUP's daily operations to focus on turning SOUP into a global organization. "I think it's going to be a global storytelling brand at the end of the day," she said. "That's my dream." Read more about where Amy is headed next in her interview with Crain's Detroit Business.
