The Detroit Climate Action Collaborative (DCAC) is launching its community engagement program.

Our next Community CHATS meeting will be held onTuesday, July 7th from 6-8 p.m. at Focus Hope (Resource Building), located at 1355 Oakman Blvd.

DCAC wants to ensure that Detroit is more livable and resilient in the face of climate change. Our approach to climate change is through an environmental justice lens. The Detroit Climate Action Plan is an opportunity for Detroit to come back in a way that is built on good paying jobs that go hand in hand with clean neighborhoods, better health, strong city services and lower costs for businesses and residents.

People have a basic right to live in a clean and safe environment that does not otherwise endanger their well-being. Environmental degradation has been linked to severe asthma, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and other serious illnesses. Climate Change impacts the some of the work you’re doing as well. The health impacts Detroit is experiencing are severe.

During this meeting, participants will be asked to:
  • Engage in a dialog about what the impacts of climate change will be at the community level, and work to create cooperative systems that prepare communities for climate change, while building strength and economic power;
  • Develop innovative solutions to reduce carbon pollution
  • Identify opportunities to deliver multiple benefits beyond climate-resilience gains, such as green job opportunities, and more;
