DETROIT RECREATION CENTERS TO BE CLOSED DEC. 21 UNTIL WEEK OF JAN. 6FOR CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR’S HOLIDAYS

 

 

 

Detroit Recreation Department administrative offices and all recreation centers will be closed for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays beginning Saturday, Dec. 21.  The administrative offices will re-open on Monday, Jan. 6 and recreation centers will re-open on one of two days.  See the list below.

 

The following centers will resume normal operations on Monday, January 6:

 

Butzel Family Center, Farwell, Patton, and Williams Recreation Centers.

 

The following centers will resume normal operation on Tuesday, January 7:

 

Adams/Butzel, Clemente, Crowell, Heilmann, Kemeny, Lasky, and Young Recreation Centers. 

 

 

ADAMS BUTZEL RECREATION CENTER OFFERING CARDIO-KICKBOXING & TONING AND ZUMBA CLASSES THROUGH DECEMBER

 

 

 

Want to get in shape and have fun doing it?  Give cardio-kickboxing or Zumba a try. The Adams Butzel Recreation Center is holding cardio-kickboxing & toning classes on Tuesdays from 6-7 p.m.  It is also holding Zumba classes on Thursdays from 6-7 p.m.  Both classes run through the middle of December.  Adams Butzel is located at 10500 Lyndon. The cost of each class is $25 for 10 weeks.   You can register at the Adams Butzel Recreation Center, or call (313) 628-0990 for more information.

LEARN ABOUT CIVIL WAR ERA CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS

 

AT HISTORIC FORT WAYNE DEC. 7

 

 

 

Learn about Civil War era Christmas traditions at Historic Fort Wayne on Saturday, December 7.  Tours begin 3 p.m. – 6:15 p.m.  Each tour lasts 1.5 hours.  Meet interpreters portraying the men who served at Fort Wayne, their confederate opponents, and the civilians they left behind.  The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children 15 years of age and under.  Parking is $5 per vehicle.  Historic Fort Wayne is located at 6325 W. Jefferson.

 

COME CELEBRATE BREAKFAST WITH SANTA DECEMBER 14

 

Bring the family out to celebrate Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, December , at 10 a.m. at Adams/Butzel Complex - Jack Adams Ice Arena, located at 10500 Lyndon.  This year’s theme is an Old Fashioned Christmas.

CITY OF DETROIT PROVIDES WARMING CENTERS 
Centers to Have Extended Hours when Temperatures Drop

The City of Detroit has contracted with the Cass Community Social Services and Operation Get Down to operate two warming centers to offer Detroit residents a break from the winter cold.

Cass Community Social Services is located at 3901 Cass Avenue, north of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The center capacity is available for women and children only. The center will be open from 4 p.m. – 8 a.m. every night, seven days a week.  Client services will be provided from now through March 2014.  If the forecast calls for low temperatures of 20 degrees or lower, services at Cass Community Social Services will be extended until noon.  

Operation Get Down is located at 6821 Medbury Street, between I-94 service drive and E. Grand Boulevard.  This facility serves women, men and children.  Operation Get Down is open from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. The center will be open for client services through March 2014. Operation Get Down extends its hours until noon when the temperatures are 10 degrees or below.
