Meeting Minutes – February 16, 2021
 
Zoom Meeting
Problem with wrong Zoom sign-on was sent with original meeting notice…we were able to get a new one and send it out in a new notice so the meeting was able to start at 6:30.

    • Will present January and February Minutes at the March Meeting.
  • Presentation and Receipt of Treasurer’s Report
    • Ending Balance (as of) December 17, 2019    $   556.44
  • Community Report
  • Ernest Little is no longer attending the Hamtramck Anti-Drug Meetings.
  • Leslie Malcolmson reported that the Midtown Alliance is continuing with monthly Zoom Meetings.
  • Rodney Williams, from the Detroit Public Schools, reported that the Detroit Public Schools are on break but they are setting up Learning Centers at the schools where students can go to get WiFi and assistance from volunteers. They provide lunches.
  • Beverlyn Hilton, Wayne County Treasurer Office, reported that there will be funds available in March to help with evictions.
  • Senator Chang’s representative reported that she is having a meeting on Unemployment Benefits problems, Feb. 24 at 6:00 – notice will be in Leslie Malcolmson’s notices.

  • Reported on recent crime statistic

  • 3rd Precinct Neighborhood Police Officers (NPOs) Report
    • Sgt. Russell reported that the Precinct will have more Senior Field Trips to Movie Night at Campus Martius, all are invited.
    • The police can help with snow removal – call him. He has a youth group that are willing to help.
    • Events this Spring will be bike rides, Chess with the Captain, gun violence prevention programs, and more.

    • Treasurer Kelvin Heath stated that there is no change from last presented balance:
    • Ending Balance (as of) December 17, 2019        $   556.44
  • Community Report
    • Cheryl Major stated that the 15th Street Block Club and the Child and Disability Group awarded their Angel rewards to Jewell Ware and Isaac Robinson (both posthumously)
    • Mr. Stokes stated that the City Wide Meeting were continuing on Zoom.
    • Amiree Woodward is now working in the Detroit Water and Sewer Department. Her phone number is 313-778-5939.
    • Leslie Malcolmson stated that she gave blood recently and the need is great due to COVID-19 hospitalization.
    • Jai Singletary, Community & Resident Services Manager, Detroit City Council Member Raquel Castañeda‐López reported that District 6 will have a monthly Zoom meeting on Feb. 20th at 6:00 – notice will be in Leslie Malcolmson’s notices.
    • Senator Chang’s representative reported that the Senator is having a vaccination townhall – notice will be in Leslie Malcolmson’s notices.
    • Midtown Alliance had a monthly meeting via Zoom on Feb. 10.
    • Kelvin Heath reported that there is new infill housing on Blaine between Woodward and Second.
    • Ms. Smith reported that issuing of parking tickets was resumed in late November.
    • We have a new County Commissioner replacing Jewell Ware: Jonathan C. Kinloch (Dist. 2)

Jonathan C. Kinloch has been engaged in Detroit's social and civic community for over thirty years. During his formative years, Kinloch was fortunate to have participated in internships and volunteerism efforts under the guidance of Michigan trailblazers such as former Detroit City Council President Erma L. Henderson, Detroit's former Ombudsman Marie Farrell-Donaldson, and Gloria C. Cobbin, a former president of the Detroit Board of Education.
 
Jonathan C. Kinloch serves as Chairman of the Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority, Commissioner on the Detroit Board of Water Commissioners and is an Associate Board Member at One Detroit Credit Union. Kinloch has served on the Detroit Board of Education and the Wayne County Board of Canvassers, where in November 2020, he garnered national attention when he resisted efforts not to certify Wayne County's 2020 Presidential Election results. While serving on the Detroit Board of Education, he introduced a number of policies which remain with the district today. He's most proud of the Office of Inspector General and the DPS Police Department. Jonathan C. Kinloch has worked as the S.E. Michigan Community Liaison to Michigan's Governor Gretchen Whitmer. Currently, he's Political Director for SEIU Healthcare Michigan Kinloch is Chair of the 13th Congressional District Democratic Party and serves as the 3rd Vice Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party. He also is a member of Triumph Church in Detroit.

  • 3rd Precinct Report – Commander Franklin Hayes
    • Workshop Wednesdays are continuing on Feb. 10
    • The Precinct has a new Captain – Capt. Tharadrous White (Capt. Cox was transferred to the 12th Precinct)
    • Sgt. Anderson was transferred to the Headquarters. In her place, we have Sgt. Lauren Russell as the head of Community Relations and the five NPOs.
    • A summary was reported of the 2020 statistics. For example, carjacking in the Precinct is the lowest in the city and the response time is the lowest in the city.
    • Problem of drag racing in the NorthEnd, working with Wayne County Sheriff for a nuisance abatement issue.
    • In response to a question from Mr. Moore, the Commander reported that the person who shot at an officer was in custody in 2-3 hours and has now been charged.
