Projects Underway, Planned Around Roosevelt Park
A few projects have been announced around the Roosevelt Park area at 14th street and Michigan Ave.
Previously announced, Slows Bar BQ is expanding into the space made available when O'Connor Realty moved down the street. The expansion will include a larger bar and a private banquet room that should be ready for use by the time the auto show rolls around in January.
Secondly, the "Slows block" (Michigan between 14th and Wabash) will see a new restaurant in the old Sam's Pawn Shop. Set to be named Gold Cash Gold, the ownership team behind Slows is hoping to have a "locally sourced, comfort food restaurant" (via Curbed) open in the late summer of 2013. There will also be 6 residential units above the restaurant that should be available this spring.
Finally, Southwest Solutions revealed that they are planning to do work in the Vernor viaduct under the railway behind Michigan Central Station. Recently they announced that they have secured funding and permission to clean and light the viaduct and they plan to include "local artsts to art it up a bit." (via Curbed)
All three of these projects will help enhance the Corktown neighborhood and improve access by bike and foot between Corktown and Southwest Detroit.
