POLICING:

Public commenters at the most recent police commissioners meeting requested the board spend less time listening to police reports and more time on police oversight, by discussing citizen complaints and lawsuits.
Commissioners discussed the expense of each officer wearing a body camera. In October, a federal grant allowed City Council to approve a contract for almost $2 million worth of body cameras.
Cmdr. Melissa Gardner, 3rd Precinct, said the “old-school way” of policing will keep things safe during the holidays, and that foot patrols, targeting hotspot areas, crime data analysis, plainclothes units and the use of bait cars are her precinct’s chosen crime reduction strategies.
