Council Approvals
- The Neighborhood Improvement Program (NIP) resolution. This resolution outlines a series of governance, procurement and community development policy objectives that the Administration is committed to implement with the expenditure of the bond funds that are on the ballot on November 3rd ("Proposal N").
- Council Member Castañeda López did not support this resolution due to the absence of commitments from the Administration to address issues linked to property tax overassessments.
-
The Community Outreach Ordinance Community Engagement resolution sponsored by Council President Jones. Click here for a summary.
-
100% grant funding for Community Health Corp activities and programming to assist residents with door-to-door support needed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
- $219,984.50 for the maintenance agreement to support the DataWorks Plus facial recognition software.
- Click here for a summary of the contract.
- Council Member Castañeda-López voted 'no' on this contract.
- She cannot support a technology that falsely identifies black and brown people and labels them as criminal for the sake of added efficiency in the investigation process. There has been no research to show this technology creates safer communities or reduces crime. It is overwhelmingly inaccurate in communities of color and our communities are tired of being over-policed, over-surveilled, and criminalized.
- Council Member Castañeda-López will continue to work towards building safer communities by investing in the resources we need to live healthy, happy lives. She will also continue to fight for the banning of facial recognition technology through the Detroiters’ Bill of Rights and the charter review process.
