The Greening of Detroit will, once again, encourage living green, loving Detroit and celebrating local food during its LIVE LOVE LOCAL Celebration. This celebration brings together community partners, key leaders, farmers, tree enthusiasts, environmentalists and foodies from across the nation to celebrate Detroit’s innovative work toward building a greener, healthier and more sustainable city.

Detroit’s Eastern Market – Shed 5
Saturday, August 25, 2012, Noon – 4 p.m.
The Greening of Detroit, in partnership with edibleWOW magazine, will host the LIVE LIVE LOCAL Celebration at Detroit’s Eastern Market. This event takes place in the newly renovated Shed 5, amid the hustle and bustle of thousands of market-goers shopping for fresh and local fruits and vegetables. Bring your appetite and get ready to experience four hours of energy-packed culinary demonstrations by some of the area’s top chefs in the heart of Detroit’s Eastern Market. From 12 to 4 p.m., chefs and farmers will be on hand to showcase “farm to fork” discussions on how they are supporting Detroit’s local food movement by creating signature dishes from locally grown food. Learn, firsthand, the chefs’ techniques and unique methods for creating the spectacular dishes.
The Greening of Detroit and edibleWOW will also award the first-ever “Young Farmer of the Year” Award, recognizing young Michigan farmers, the future of agriculture. All candidates will be featured in edibleWOW’s 2012 summer issue. The honoree will receive a cash and/or in-kind award. Twelve individual farmers from Genesee, Oakland, Tuscola, Washtenaw and Wayne counties have already been nominated. They are an eclectic group, ranging from urban farmers to agricultural consultants and country CSA farmers. The LIVE LOVE LOCAL Celebration will be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate healthy, local living, while raising critical support for The Greening of Detroit’s environmental programs and projects.
